Common problems with popular designs

First thing’s first: I’m not going to bash popular designs. However, I will be pointing out some commonly-found negatives about them that can be fixed or at least addressed.

All websites should be primarily focused on the user’s experience. The user could be an end-user at home at their desk in their PJs, or your content manager regularly updating the website with new blog posts. Without the user in mind, the design falls apart and the website becomes essentially useless. It looks nice, but has no practical purpose. How can a website look awesome, but still be bad? Well, it depends on your website and what you provide for the user. There are numerous popular designs out there today that have common problems associated with them that many designers simply don’t consider.
